The drive between Calgary and Golden through the Rocky Mountains is one of the most beautiful in the world. Golden is called “the heart of the parks” as it is surrounded by 9 National and Provincial Parks!

Opening hours for Buffalo Tours

Regular Hours: May- September 10:15AM MST  public tour. Park at the big barn barn at the top of the hill and walk down to the two storey cabin at 10:15.

Buffalo Tours

Come and meet Chester Jr., Leo’s chief Bull, & his herd of Buffalo. Learn first hand about these amazing creatures & their history in this land. Watch Leo demonstrate native fire building techniques, check out his collection of curiosities from the land and explore the ranch and it’s unique surrounding areas. Leo does one buffalo tour every day May 15 thru September at 10:15 a.m. ( Alberta time) it includes the native fire making demonstration and is $15 for adults. Little kids are free and you are warmly welcome.

Buffalo ranch: what an experience!!! We met bison Chester junior and his herd while his humorous and sympathetic owner Leo explained a thousand interesting things. And… we learned how to make fire the Indian way. A fantastic afternoon impossible to ever forget!

We came upon Leo’s by chance and boy are we ever glad! We are already planning our trip back for winter! Leo is a wonderful guide! He knows his stuff! And what’s most beautiful is he loves his work and I promise you will too. Buffalo/Bison have just jumped way up my favourite animal list! Loved him his music his tour his farm and his tractor and of course his buffalo !
